I kept watching great math teachers lose their evenings to the copier.
As a classroom teacher and math specialist for 19 years, I saw the same thing in school after school. The lessons were strong, but getting them ready took hours.
So I built what I wished I’d had: print-ready supplemental math kits for K–12 classrooms. Each kit arrives with the center and lesson card decks and game boards already assembled, so teachers can open the box and teach.
I was that teacher. I stood at the copier at 4pm, cutting cards for a lesson I believed in, knowing I still had planning to do and a family waiting at home.
Rachel Rundstrom, founder
Later, as a coach, I watched teacher after teacher do the same thing. They weren’t struggling with their commitment to their students, their understanding of math, or their pedagogy. They were struggling with the prep.
Teachers carry so much right now, and I can’t fix all of it, but I can fix this one piece. So I made the kits I wished someone had handed me. My wish is always for teachers to be valued and supported, and I’m grateful that our kits can bring some balance to their lives.
Teacher-founded, teacher-designed.
Before founding The Math Modernist, I was a contributor to the professional learning team for the K–5 curriculum. Now, as an educational consultant in schools, I keep listening to teachers so we can keep finding ways to make their lives easier. Teachers deserve it, and so do students.
